Group Classes

Group classes are for you when...

Taaltest

If you are not sure at what level you are at this moment, I recommend you taking my language test to check what level you have. Disclaimer: this is only an indication! Please be honest with yourself and your level and check the descriptions of the courses carefully.

All of our levels

If you want to join one of our group classes, you need to know at what level you are. There are six levels of language proficiency (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) according to the CEFR scale.

You don’t have any (or almost no) knowledge of the Dutch language.

This is the beginner level. After completing the A0 to A1 course, you should be able to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases. You can introduce yourself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where someone lives, people they know and things they have. You can interact in a simple way as long as the other person talks slowly and clearly and is willing to help you out.

We call this the elementary level. After completing the A1 to A2 course, you should be able to understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). You will be able to use the two most used past sentences (simple past and present perfect), reflexive and separable verbs, and the subclause structure.

You are an intermediate now! After completing the A2 to B1 course, you should be able to handle most common situations. You can participate unprepared in conversations about familiar topics and everyday life (family, hobbies, work, travel, current events). You can connect sentences in a simple way so that you can describe experiences, events, your dreams, hopes and ambitions. You can briefly give reasons and explanations for your opinions and ideas. You can tell a story, the plot of a book or movie and give your opinion about it.

This is what we officially call: upper-intermediate. Sounds great, right? This is the level you need if you want to work/study on an academic level in The Netherlands. You can participate in conversations with native speakers in a fluent way. After completing the B1 to B2 course, you should be able to play an active role in discussions on well-known topics and give your opinion. You can provide clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of topics related to your areas of interest.

I like to use these levels as a guideline to see where you are at, but sometimes it’s not so easy to define at what level you are. You can be on level A2 according to your listening and understanding, but at the same time on level A1 according to speaking and writing. If you are not sure at what level you are at this moment, I recommend you taking my language test to check what level you have. Disclaimer: this is only an indication! Please be honest with yourself and your level and check the descriptions of the courses carefully.

"Learn Dutch so you can finally understand those stroopwafel recipes! They’re simply too gooood!"

Important to know

Each group package contains 10 lessons, through which we complete half of the language level. We do for example level A0 to A0.1, which means the first half of level A0 to A1. Or we do for example level A2.1 to B1, which means the second half of level A2 to B1.

After completing a first half of the language level, the group will continue on the same day/time so finish the second half of the level.  It is simply not possible to do an entire language level in 10 classes (you need around 60 to 70 study hours in total to be able to go from one language level to the other).

A package of 10 classes is €200. You can pay by clicking on the group that you want to participate in below and follow the instructions.

We know that life can be intense sometimes and that you might not be looking for a 3 hour Dutch class after a long day of work. So to make everything doable, our group classes are 1,5 hour, once a week. As soon as we are opening new groups, you will see them published here on this page. Wanna be the first one to hear about new groups?

All the classes are online. We use either Zoom, Teams or Google Meet, depending on the teacher. You will receive the link in the week before starting the classes by email.

All of the private teachers are experienced and native Dutch speakers (check out the team here).

Your teacher will upload homework after every class in the Google Classroom. We expect you to hand in the homework before the class, but in the end you are responsible for your own learning process. If you are not making your homework we won’t be angry with you, but you’ll notice you will learn Dutch slower or that you might get behind on a few things.

what students say

Thank you for the classes, Charlotte! Your energy and effort do not go unnoticed. You manage to make these classes fun and interesting. My compliments to you for coming up with interesting exercises, like incorporating YouTube videos and Dutch songs for homework. I have started speaking Dutch more with people around me and I feel more comfortable with the language. You use online tools so well, that I feel like we are in a physical class. Exercises are fun, a mix of listening, speaking and reading. And definitely a fun learning environment!

Dear Charlotte, I’ve been enjoying your classes. Honestly saying, I wasn’t expecting much from the classes that take place just once a week, but it was absolutely worth for me. I even saw the advantage, since it’s very easy to fit in your agenda and there’s enough time to process the information and remember new words. I also found the group size and lesson duration (1.5h) optimal. I really love how you always try to explain the words or expressions with many examples, the way it’s used in real daily talks, rather than just in the book. It helps a lot to understand the meaning and relevancy. You even mention the words/expressions that are not used a lot (or you'd not use personally) so we don't need to focus on that! Another thing I appreciate a lot is that our homework is checked every week personally and we all have a chance to get a proper feedback. Super valuable, thank you for that!
Liza
I do enjoy them plenty and I always look forward to Mondays now. Thank you!
Heba
I have loved learning with Michelle she is wonderful and I really enjoy the class (although it's challenging for me sometimes haha)
Anna
It has been a great time learning Dutch with Michelle 😊
Phinsien
Michelle‘s lessons are so much fun. I am so grateful for our group and all the things I’ve learned so far
Manuela
It's a pleasure to learn Dutch with Michelle. She explains well and encourage all people to participate. Even if it's online, we create a nice group and evolve together. The level is adapted and the professor always helps us if needed. I'm so happy to see all the progress in just 3 months ! During these 10 lessons, I definitely learn so much more than what I thought. I can now understand easily and I have better confidence to talk.
Anaïs
Hi Charlotte! I'm having a great time learning with Shonna and all the other girls. Thanks!
Pia
The classes are going really well. I feel that there is space for the theoretical learning but also for practical. Thank you and Shonna for all your help 😊 Best regards
Rafael
I was really happy with the content that we were being taught, I also got more confident. with my knowledge and tried to push myself with the homeworks. Shonna was really easy to talk to and answered all of our questions. I was struggling a lot with the sentence structures and now I feel much more confident and my knowledge has definitely increased. My dutch friends are already telling me how much I have increased. Really happy!
Naz
Shonna was a very nice and helpful teacher. She has a positive energy and that helps with trying to speak Dutch. I really liked the class with her. Yes, I improved my pronunciation and understanding because of the speaking exercises and reading texts. It was a course that gave me the boost to learn Dutch. I could really feel that I am progressing.
Justyna
I've truly enjoyed the first lessons with Shonna and I can see the progress I've made during this time! I hope to have the opportunity to pick up Dutch again in the future when circumstances allow! Best regards
Julie
I always felt comfortable to ask questions and Charlotte always answered to all questions and explained super clearly! I am more confident, I learned a lot of new words, I revised the grammar, improved my pronunciation. I really liked the small group we were, it was perfect! I don't have any suggestions for improving the course. I just want to thank you a lot Charlotte for your time and dedication. You are an amazing teacher but also an amazing person, it's always super nice to chat with you! 😊
Fanny
It was great, thank you so much! I can now understand a lot more and formulate whole sentences! I was always looking forward to it and it never felt like a chore, because the lessons were entertaining and fun.
